No one should be alone at Christmas, not even dogs or cats, which is why the Humane Society of the Black Hills is hosting an adopt-a-thon this weekend.
Many pets are looking for homes, so Saturday the Humane Society is hosting an adoption event from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. There will be cookies and other treats, and there will be plenty of dogs and cats to see.
And because you might not know what type of pet to give, the Humane Society is also offering gift certificates this year.
Debrah Anderson with the Humane Society says, "There can be nothing more frustrating than waking up in the morning and finding a kitten under the Christmas tree when you're allergic to cats, so we'd rather people come in a purchase a gift certificate and then let the individuals, the recipients, come down when they're ready and pick out the pet that they would like to get."
Those with the Humane Society say they are working with alternative adoption agencies and breed specific rescue groups to help find homes for animals in the shelter.
Saturday the Humane Society will be giving out $15 gift certificates to microchip your pet.
Dog adoptions are $85 dollars and cats are $55. If the pet is older than six years old, they're half price.
