This weekend Deadwood will be overrun by people in colorful masks, Cajun cooking, cakes, and beads, lots of beads.
Floats will cruise along Main Street Deadwood Saturday night as part of the Mardi Gras celebration. This year’s event features two new events, starting with a costume contest Friday night during the people’s parade. Also new this year is a cake decorating contest on Saturday.
The Event Coordinator with the Deadwood Chamber, Sarah Anderson, says, "We do Mardi Gras Deadwood style. We're our own little place on the map. We try to. It's all about the beads so, definitely there’s going to be a lot of beads thrown on Saturday night."
Michael Dupré and Krista Fogelsong will be judges for some of the contests starting at 2:00 p.m. And then don't forget the parade at 7:00 p.m. For more information on all the Mardi Gras festivities, go to www.deadwood.com.
