Every year more and more kids in the Rapid City School System get on the Backpack Program though the Community Food Bank.

It's a way to feed kids on the weekends that otherwise might go hungry.

Friday, student helpers at General Beadle Elementary School helped organize the food deliveries.

The bags of food have nutritious meals and snacks.

This year more than 100 students at the elementary school alone are in the program and that number is expected to go up as the school year continues.

Principal of General Beadle, Robin Gillespie, says, “I think more and more families in Rapid City are struggling, and if you're a single mom if you and everybody's thinking 'That'd be pretty awesome,' I mean anybody, very few people could not use the help now days.”

District wide more than 1,000 kids participate in the Backpack Program; that's almost 300 more students than last year.
