Honor Flight Takes Off

Some call it the greatest generation it's the generation that won a war and freed a continent.

Friday veterans of WWII are flying from South Dakota to see the war memorials built in their honor.

Governor Rounds says, "We’re here because we want to say thank you.  You are a part of the greatest generation," to the veterans.

The men, veterans of WWII, are waiting anxiously for their Honor Flight experience to begin.

All the veterans agree, it's about time they made the journey out to see their memorial.

Because time is not on their side, the reality is, more than one thousand WWII veterans die each day.

They’re ready to go and excited for the trip of a lifetime.

While active duty service members are standing by, showing support and wishing them a safe journey.

This is the second Honor Flight South Dakota has done.

Honor Flight is a volunteer organization that, through donations, offers free trips to Washington, DC for WWII veterans.

Honor Flight is hoping to host another flight out of Aberdeen soon.
