The South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation says sales tax revenues from the 2009 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally increased from the 2008 Rally.

Sales tax and tourism tax collected from temporary vendors totaled $862,000 in the northern Black Hills, which includes Sturgis and all communities in Meade and Lawrence Counties.

The Revenue Department says the total is up more than $100,000 from last year's total.

The department says part of it can be attributed to an increase in South Dakota's tourism tax, which moved from 1 percent to 1.5 percent on July 1.

But, there were actually 42 fewer vendors this year.
