More than 25,000 without power in Black Hills area
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Black Hills Power official says the company is working to restore power to more than 25,000 customers who lost power in the autumn storm that has dumped up to 43 inches of snow in western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming.
Mutch Usera (Yoo-SEHR--uh) of Black Hills Power says about one-third of the company's customers were without power early Saturday. He says crews could not work overnight because of blowing snow, but they were out early Saturday to assess damages.
Usera says crews from other utility companies are expected to arrive by midday to help fix transmission lines. He says the rough terrain in the Black Hills and downed tree limbs are hampering crews trying to reach some areas, but improving weather should help the repair effort.
