SD Mines, BHSU Rivalry Continues This Weekend
The Homestake Trophy will be up for grabs this weekend as the South Dakota School of Mines renews its rivalry with Black Hills State University under the lights at O'Harra Stadium.
The School of Mines enters the game with a record of 1-1, while the Yellow Jackets are 0-1.
The Hardrockers opened the season with a 65-6 win over Cole College, before falling to Colorado Mines last weekend by 66 points.
On the other hand, the Yellow Jackets lost their season opener to Angelo State, 38-26.
Black Hills State has won the last three meetings between these two teams and nine of the last 11.
School of Mines head coach Stacy Collins says his team needs to play with more consistency.
Collins says, “We got be consistent and move the football offensively. We need to get rhythm. When we're in third down situations, we have to move the chains. Defensively, we can allow a team to keep us on the field for long drives. We've got to be able to get off the field in third and fourth down situations. And we've got to be able to change the game with special teams whether that's creating turnovers or making big plays. But those are the areas we've got to improve on to be successful on Saturday night.”
