Chubby Chipmunk Expands
From science lovers to chocolate lovers, a popular Deadwood business, Chubby Chipmunk, recently expanded to Rapid City.
The Alex Johnson proudly welcomes Chubby Chipmunk – hand dipped chocolates and the opening of their new storefront in the hotel's lobby.
Chubby Chipmunk's Deadwood location opened in 2005.
The owner's plan was for a small, one woman operation specializing in hand-dipped truffles. But fate saw a bigger future for the woman, who says she puts love into every piece of chocolate she makes.
Chip Tautkus, owner of Chubby Chipmunk, says, "We thought about branching out, and then Alex Johnson contacted us. And, like I said, the rest is history. A short history so far, but we're very thrilled and honored that they asked us to be a part of their place.”
An editor from Rachel Ray magazine stopped by the original store four months after it first opened, and since then Chubby Chipmunk is known around the country, and popular even in Hollywood.
Tautkus says, "We've had a crazy year. We're invited to be in the CMA gift bags, and then they contacted us again to be in the Grammy's. And we also did a Hollywood Mother's Day bag for the pregnant celebrities that are on the A-list."
The arrival of Chubby Chipmunk in the hotel Alex Johnson brings luxury and decadence to a new level.
Guests are encouraged to taste a sampling of the chocolate for free.
