SD Mines Officially a Full Member of NCAA Division II
The South Dakota School of Mines athletics department received word Friday that the school has been accepted for full membership into the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division II beginning this school year.
Officials at the School of Mines held a press conference Friday afternoon to announce the good news.
It's been a long process for the Hardrockers, who spent the first two years of the transition in a candidacy membership and the past year as a provisional member.
The School of Mines will now be eligible to compete in NCAA Division II post-season events, as well as for post-season academic and athletic awards.
The Hardrockers will officially become a member of the NCAA Division II on September 1.
School of Mines Athletics Director Dick Kaiser says, “The confidence level. The brand. The ability to go out nation wide and recruit which we sort of did before. But now it's full fledge. We can go out and tell them we're Division II. Not that we're in the process. And the ability of our coaches to feel proud of where they're at. I think all of that added together is going to pay big dividends. We have a great coaching staff and they understand it's a step up.”
Black Hills State University in Spearfish was also accepted as an NCAA Division II member.
