Broncos Alumni at Scheels
Those lucky enough to make it to Scheels on Saturday met a few alumni members of the Denver Broncos. During a two hour window from 3 to 5, Denver fans lined up to get a piece of Broncos apparel or merchandise signed. The five Broncos alumni are on an annual tour that crosses a number of states including South Dakota and Wyoming.
The Broncos stop in Rapid City every year for the Jaycees-Broncos Basketball Tournament. But for Scheels, this is a first. Zac soetmelk, the assistant store leader at scheels says, "I think for the Jaycees basketball tournament I'm fairly certain they do that almost every year. This is the first time they actually reached out to us, and asked if we wanted to host them and we jumped all over it and we hope that in the future we can do a similar thing."
The tournament raises money for the charity that sponsors the game each year. As for the players, later that evening they invited kids of all ages to join them on the Stevens High School court to show off their game.
Former running back Tatum Bell says, "We just pick people to come play the game with us. You know we look for high school kids, females, little kids get to shoot the free throws so they can interact and stay into the game. So every time, the free throw line, the kids always get to go. It's cool, we get to keep the fans and the kids pretty much into it."
