WAVI Kicks Off Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes in the U.S. and Working Against Violence Incorporated (WAVI) is helping spread awareness of sexual assault in our community with the help of city leaders.
“I think we have an obligation as a society to draw awareness to impulse crimes such as domestic violence and sexual assault and to raise awareness and try to prevent these from happening again,” says Rapid City Mayor Sam Kooiker.
For 35 years WAVI has offered comprehensive services to victims of sexual assault but most importantly brings several community agencies together to work as a team for victims needing certain resources.
To help spread awareness, Mayor Kooiker officially proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
