SD Mines: Conference Search Continues
Earlier this year, officials at the South Dakota School of Mines announced both the Hardrocker football and soccer programs are joining the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
However, the school is still searching for a conference affiliation for its other sports programs.
The Hardrockers have extensively been looking for a conference affiliation since making the move from NAIA to NCAA Division II.
The School of Mines has competed as an independent institution during the past two seasons.
Hardrocker Athletics Director Dr. Dick Kaiser says there's still a chance that the other school's team sports could join the GNAC in the future.
Dr. Kaiser says, “I think we would like to hope that somewhere down the road maybe our other teams would be considered potentially by the GNAC. But right now there's no guarantees on that and we're not moving in that direction. We're just making ourselves available. We're attempting to contact as many conferences as we can to try to promote our men's and women's basketball program and our volleyball program. If it would happen to be in the GNAC, that would be great because they've been so good to us. But there are no guarantees in that.”
