The infant mortality rate has more than doubled in the state of South Dakota since 2005.
But a new task force will try and reduce that number to 7 percent by 2015.
First lady Linda Daugaard spoke at the Rotary Club meeting today with some strategies for a new task force.
She says education is the most important factor to help reduce the infant mortality numbers.
Linda Daugaard says, “We need a whole village to get this job done parents grandparents, doctors and communities all gathering together to get this taken care of.”
Also announced at today's meeting, Rapid City Regional Foundation will be matching a $5,000 grant for cribs for kids.
The program is where cribs will be given out to mothers with high risk pregnancies, so the baby will have a safe place to sleep.
