Since making the move from class ‘AA’ to class ‘A’, the Spearfish girls basketball team is off to its best start in several years.

So far this season, the Spartans are undefeated and ranked fifth in the state.

But Tuesday, the Spartans faced their toughest test of the year from second ranked St. Thomas More.

Both teams entered the contest tied for the lead in the Black Hills Conference with 5 and 0 records.

The game ended with St. Thomas More winning 50 to 46.

Elsewhere in girls basketball, Scottsbluff, Nebraska defeated Rapid City Central Tuesday with the final score 60 to 31.

Also, Belle Fourche falls surprises Lead-Deadwood with a win at 56 to 48. 

Switching to boys basketball, second ranked St. Thomas More beat Spearfish Tuesday in a battle between the top two teams in district 16A, final score 59 to 50.

Plus, Lead-Deadwood knocked off Belle Fourche 75 to 44.

The Golddiggers have now won three in a row.

And finally, it was Wall with a 76 to 60 victory over Hot Springs.

And New Underwood powers past Newell 46 to 34 is your final score.
