The people at Youth and Family Services received a nice holiday gift Monday.
Members of the Rapid City Woodworkers Association are putting their personal touch on over 1,600 wooden toys.
Those toys are going to children in area programs, and Monday kids at YFS received some of the toys.
Twelve members of the Woodworkers Association work year round on the gifts.
They say they look forward to this time of year
Bob Buchanan, of the RC Woodworkers Association, says, "We have a talent for woodworking, a passion for woodworking so we like to make things and give them to people we know can appreciate them, and little kids are the best candidates and that’s why we do to."
The wood used to make the toys is donated throughout the year.
Some of the toys include cars, planes, coin banks, dolls, chairs, and even toys with wheels.
Bernie Peterson, YFS Program Director, "Handmade wooden toys are really, really nice for kids because they are not plastic they have a different tackle experience and kids can use their imagination when playing with wooden toys."
The woodworkers can always use an extra hand.
They meet at 7:00 p.m on the second Monday of the month at 'Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.' located on Wood Avenue.
