This week is International Fraud Awareness week around the world.

It's a week dedicated to fraud awareness, detection, and prevention.

Organizations around the world lose an estimated five percent of their annual revenues to fraud, according to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

One of those examiners lives in Rapid City and says fraud happens in the Black Hills. In fact, it's on the rise.

Robert Brancato, fraud examiner, Robert Dean & Associate, says, "We want to communicate that it can happen it will happen. And the best thing an individual can do, or a business owner can do, is get the prevention methods in place.”

Fraud examiners say it's important to have those methods in place because fraud can happen anywhere, and it's happening more in South Dakota.

Next week we will tell you about those methods and take an in-depth look at fraud in the Black Hills and how you can protect your business.

The series, “Fraud…It's Your Business,” starts on Tuesday.
